Event History:

Back in 1981, the same year Family Rescue was founded, Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the Day of Unity conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The month is intended to be a designated time to mourn those killed by their abusers and the impacts of abuse, celebrate survivors, and connect those involved in the movement to end domestic violence. In the past we have marched on the sidewalks throughout the South Side demanding peace, created public las ofrendas (Dia de los Muertos alters), passed out backpacks with resources, and fed our community. We’ve done this all while amplifying the voices of survivors, raising awareness about domestic violence, and encouraging others to join us in our mission to eliminate abuse in the Chicagoland area. You can learn more about our work here.

Donations:

If you are interested in donating, we accept both monetary donations to fund our services, in-kind donations for clients, raffle donations and the donating of time via volunteering.

  • If you are interested in making an in-kind donation for our clients, please contact development@familyrescueinc.org to make an appointment. We are happy to accept toiletries, cleaning supplies, new bras, new socks, and more. Event Safety:

In accordance with city parade policy, we will have a small Chicago Police Department presence at this event. In an effort to create a safe space, we also ask that attendees bring only clear bags. We also ask to please not take photos or videos of other attendees without their consent.

Event Accessibility:

The venue is wheelchair accessible and will have multiple seating areas. We ask that attendees contribute to help making the event fragrance-free to accommodate participants with fragrance sensitivity. This means not wearing cologne, perfume, scented lotions/aftershave, strong-smelling hair products, and products of a similar nature. A live stream of the speakers will be available to view from our Instagram @FamilyRescue.
